Janet Summers

I have been painting and drawing from an early age, mostly the everyday things found in my environment and nature.  My studies were classical including figure,portrait, and still life in watercolors, pastels, charcole  and oils.  I also studied  fine art printmaking including etching, lithography, woodcuts and silkscreen,  and sculpture in stone and clay.

In New York I worked as a master printer of limited edition etchings and later silkscreen editions of up to 45 screens of color for each work of art.  When I moved to Greece I found work designing packaging for foods and drugs,  but soon found work designing greeting cards which was more expressive.

For the past ten years I have been able to devote myself entirly to painting only what I want to paint, even tho I have been painting all of the time I didn't have the economic ease of painting only for arts sake.

My paintings are inspired by nature,which never fails to present me with new challenges in the unending development of my creativity. I paint what I love and believe art was given to mankind as a therapy for the soul; for the creator as well as the viewer. I also beleive a work of art should be beautiful and bring a positive emotion to the viewer, no enigmas, no politics, just a beautiful visual feast.
